From the Margherita Tea Estate in the Assam region of India. In 1884 the Margherita Tea Estate was founded by the Makum Tea Company, a part of the Assam Railway and Trading Company. Today, it is owned by the Williamson Magor Group, the world's largest tea producer. The estate is named after the nearby township of Margherita. The town itself was named after Queen Margherita, the reigning Italian queen at the time. The estate is situated at the upper end of the Assam Valley, with the Arunachal to the south and the Margherita township to the north. The area is fertile & rich. The total surface area of this tea garden is 946 hectares, of which approximately 614 hectares are used for the cultivation of tea.
