Being in the World®

Our Charitable Brand

Being in the World® is Mahamosa’s charitable brand and an expression of our business model and philosophy. We chose the phrase "Being in the World" because it describes not only our individual being but also our inseparable situation, connection and continuity with the world around us. We explore, think about, appreciate and embrace internationalism/globalism, diversity, and multiculturalism. We connect with and help people connect and be in the world. The Being in the World community has no boundaries. Our business is an experiment in socially and environmentally responsible capitalism. We believe people, including consumers, are motivated not solely by individual concerns but also by social and worldly concerns or causes beyond the individual self. Taking this conviction to the retailing world, we believe consumers inform their purchasing decisions not only by cost but also a true concern for the world around them.

Our Charitable Percentage and Process

Through Being in the World® we aim to prove that businesses can successfully compete while contributing a significant percentage of net profits to worthy charitable causes. We view our company as a “For ‘Non-Profit’” (versus a “For Profit” or a “Non-Profit”), with a mission not only to operate profitably, but also to contribute fifty percent (50%) of our annual net profits after taxes to worthy non-profit organizations and causes. We chose fifty percent (50%) to balance both the for-profit and not-for profit incentive. Other businesses in the tea industry generally contribute miniscule percentages (ranging from 0 to 1%) of revenue or profits. We challenge them and others to give more and establish and meet much higher and stricter business standards and goals for social and environmental responsibility. At the end of each fiscal year we will reconcile our ongoing donations with our annual net profits after taxes. Our goal will always be to maximize profits and keep our expenses reasonable to operate our company in an efficient and effective manner. We will continually update our website with our contributions, provided we are profitable. We are still in the process of winning over customers to our business model and we are moving in the right direction. Our donations may seem small but we are a relatively young & small company. Once we reach net profitability we expect to give bigger donations. Our success depends on our customers. To whom and how we contribute will be determined by a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, consideration of any customer feedback via our surveys, polls, or otherwise.

Our Goods and Services

Under the Being in the World® brand we both directly contribute to charitable causes as well as organize community service events, programs and projects. Under the brand, we also sell clothing and provide, prepare and serve food and beverages, such as teas, herbs and spices, among other products and services. You can find our Being in the World® branded products under our Gifts and Wares tab in the main navigation of our website. Please purchase our goods and services to help us prove that sensible capitalism with higher motivation can succeed in the face of rigid and fierce competitive forces. Additionally, to help our business experiment succeed please help us connect with others by spreading the word to your friends using any and all social media outlets, including, but not limited to, Facebook and Twitter
