From the Margaret's Hope Tea Estate in the Darjeeling region of West Bengal, India. This name of this famous Darjeeling tea estate has an interesting origin. The owner of the estate renamed it in the 1930's after his daughter, Margaret, who had fallen in love with the tea garden upon visiting it. She had hoped to come back to see the estate again but died an untimely death to tropical disease aboard a ship. The Margaret' Hope Tea Estate exclusively cultivates the Chinese variant of the Camellia Sinensis tea species while most plantations in India cultivate the Assam variety of tea leaf. The tea shrubs grow slowly at the higher altitudes due to the cold weather of the Himalayans. The result of the slow growth is a more complex, high grade and aromatic leaf. Production quantities are limited and thus in higher demand.
